Day 1 of the 1st Test between Zimbabwe and West Indies was abandoned by rain after Windies had made bright start to their innings. Opting to bat first Chanderpaul and Brathwaite scored unbeaten half centuries and put together 112 stand for the opening wicket. The rain came down 30 minutes before the scheduled tea interval but stopped after sometime. However It came back again after all the covers had been removed and the ground was being readied for play to begin. There was no further play once rain down for the second time.

ZIM vs WI LIVE: Five of Zimbabwe’s starters are out due to injuries, including regular skipper Sean Williams , all-rounders Sikandar Raza and Ryal Burl, pacers Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani, and all-rounders Sikandar Raza and Ryal Burl, who are on franchise commitments. However, Zimbabwe does have a veteran of the Test format in their squad in the form of Gary Ballance.
Ballance had a productive debut with the senior Zimbabwe team, scoring two 30-plus runs, including a fifty, in three Twenty20 internationals against Ireland. He will benefit from having 23 Test matches under his belt for England when the hosts take on West Indies in the sixth series between the two nations and the first in more than five years.
On the other side, the West Indies have experienced their own problems. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led team has a chance to rebound under the direction of the new performance mentor Brian Lara after a disappointing showing in the T20 World Cup and in the Test series against Australia.
The two games will provide the visitors a chance to discover their strongest playing lineup and give the players some game time against a depleted Zimbabwe side before a significant series, all before the West Indies travel to the other and stronger African nation, South Africa.
