ZIM vs BAN: Tamim Iqbal is first Bangladesh batsman to make 8000 ODI runs

ZIM vs BAN: Tamim Iqbal became the first hitter from Bangladesh to score 8,000 One Day International (ODI)runs on Friday.

He accomplished this milestone while playing for his team against Zimbabwe in Harare’s opening ODI. Since January 2021, Tamim Iqbal has led the Bangladesh cricket team, and he is in great form as both a captain and an opener. He was also the first Bangladeshi player to score 5000, 6000, and 7000 runs in an ODI.

In the game, he reached his 54th ODI half-century as Bangladesh amassed 303 runs in the allotted 50 overs. In 88 balls, Tamim scored 62 runs.

Coming to the match, after an exciting run chase in Harare on Friday, Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh in an ODI for the first time in nine years.

After deciding to bowl first, Zimbabwe gave up 303/2 and saw their hopes quickly dashed. As their openers fell in the first two overs, leaving them reeling at 6/2. After a promising stand, Wesley Madhevere was knocked out, but Zimbabwe was saved once more by Sikandar Raza.

In the companionship of Innocent Kaia, Raza assisted Zimbabwe in escaping its rut and regaining control. The pair continued, expertly timing their collaboration to lower the required rate.

As the pair put together a 192-run partnership, the third-highest ever for Zimbabwe in ODIs. Kaia completed his first ODI ton while Raza scored his fourth. With 224 runs against Afghanistan, Hamilton Mazakadza and Raza alone hold the record for the best stand in 2014.

Zimbabwe remained on track to win the game even after Kaia was eventually removed for 110. As Zimbabwe recorded a historic victory, Raza stayed unbeaten on 135.
