YO-YO Test: Sunil Gavaskar – Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar does not mince words and expresses his displeasure known. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s move to reintroduce the YO-YO Test has got too well with the Little Master. The former India opener feels only cricket fitness should be the main parameter to judge a player. YO-YO Test is mandatory for Indian players since 2016. If a cricketer fails the test, then the individual is not selected for the team. Follow All India Cricket Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

“Fitness is an individual thing, and there is no such thing as one size fits all. Quick bowlers need a different level than spinners, wicket-keepers need an even higher level and batters perhaps the least. Cricket fitness should be the prime consideration,” Gavaskar said.

YO-YO Test: Why Gavaskar is against BCCI reintroducing YO-YO Test?

· Few of the good players like Prithvi Shaw, Varun Chakravarthy, & Rahul Tewatia failed the YO-YO Test, despite churning out good performances in domestic tournaments.

· Gavaskar believes each induvial has different requirements when it comes to cricket, and judging a player by YO-YO Test is not ideal.

· The Little Master further opines that the YO-YO Test might be a hindrance for few to clear owing to the difficulty.

· While some like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Manish Pandey have aced YO-YO Test, the majority of others have not enjoyed it.

· Kapil Dev is also against YO-YO as he feels each individual has a different way of responding to fitness drills.

“Sunil Gavaskar may not have enjoyed running more than 15 minutes as a part of his fitness drill, but he could bat for three days. Even the likes of Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Gangly may or may not have cleared this version of the Yo-Yo test, but they turned out to be some of the best players India has produced.”
