Rajkumar Sharma slams statements about Virat Kohli missing out on T20 World Cup

India star batter Virat Kohli‘s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma criticised the claims that the former captain would not be participating in the forthcoming T20 World Cup on Monday. He made these comments in response to Kapil Dev’s comments that Virat might be dropped from the T20I team if Ravichandran Ashwin is dropped from the Test squad and that Kohli needs to play better.

Some rumours claim that the veteran cricketer may forced to watch from the sidelines at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place in Australia in October of this year.

“I find these statements to be funny. You should look at the records of those people who are making such comments. As you are talking about the T20 format, where Virat’s average is 50 plus, also his strike rate is 140, what else do you expect from a player to do?” Rajkumar told ANI.

“He has these records in almost 99 matches and not just 5 matches. If you going to feel that after IPL’s failure, Virat should not included in the T20 World Cup squad, then I don’t think that these people have done their homework correctly,” he added.

The former captain continued his poor play in T20Is, scoring only 12 runs in two innings, and was unable to reach scores of more than 11 and 20 against England in the fifth and final Test at Edgbaston.

Additionally, Kohli had a below-average IPL 2022, in which he was only able to score 341 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 115.98 and an average of 22.73. Only two half-centuries from him were possible during the competition.
