IPL 2022: Orange cap winner Jos Buttler ‘disappointed’ as Rajasthan Royals lose to Gujarat Titans
IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler, who was named ‘Player of the Tournament,’ was devastated following his team’s loss to Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Buttler, who had a fantastic season with the bat, scored 863 runs at an average of 57.53 in 17 games. This season, he was named player of the tournament and received the orange cap.
“Disappointed – that’s completely natural. Have lost plenty of finals in my career, unfortunately,” said Jos Buttler in a post-match presentation.
He did, however, say that he exceeded his own expectations during the season, becoming the tournament’s second-highest run scorer in a single edition.

“Exceeded all my expectations apart from today – the trophy we really wanted. Disappointed with that. Big congratulations to Hardik and team. Deserving champions. My goals are to play my role for the team and try and react on the day regarding what the game is asking me to do. In good teams you have a lot of trust in everyone. We have huge trust in everyone in our team. Very grateful for the opportunity to play today,” Buttler said.
Rajasthan had to put forth a great effort with the ball to come back into the game after establishing a low-scoring target of 131. Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna bowled brilliantly in the powerplay, reducing Gujarat to 31 for two and also returning Wriddhiman Saha (5) and Matthew Wade (8) to the pavilion.
Gujarat romped home in the last over thanks to Shubman Gill’s risk-free collection of runs and David Miller’s quickfire 32. Gujarat’s triumph sealed with a six by opener Gill, who stayed undefeated on 45.
