IND vs WI: Star batsman Virat Kohli requested a break from the entire series against the West Indies, including the five T20Is.

On July 11, the day after the short-format series against England ends, the T20 team for the West Indies visit expected to revealed.

“It was team management’s decision to rest Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah for the ODI series along with skipper himself,” a senior BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The five-game T20 series begins on July 29 in Tarouba, Trinidad, continues with two games on August 1 and 2 in St. Kitts, and ends on August 6 and 7 in Florida, respectively.

“However for the T20I series, all others are playing but Kohli has himself asked for a break. He has informed that he will be available for all series after the West Indies tour,” the source informed.

Ravichandran Ashwin, a veteran off-spinner, reportedly going to called up for the T20 series’ legs in the Caribbean and the USA.

“Ashwin is very much in the scheme of things. And he will be also playing the T20 series in the West Indies. Also Washington Sundar still not fit to play and by the time. He will be playing for Lancashire in the County Championship and Royal London Cup,” he added.

While Kohli will receive the rest he has been seeking, his inclusion in the national T20 squad. For the upcoming major international competition (the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka) will rely on his performance in the T20 format in the two games he will play against England starting on Thursday.
