IND vs SA: South Africa beat India by seven wickets in the first T20I of the five-match series on Thursday at Arun Jaitely Stadium, thanks to top-class bowling from Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller.

To lead Proteas to a historic run chase, Van van Dussen slammed 75* off 46 balls, while Miller scored 64* off 31 balls. South Africa got off to a rough start in their pursuit of 212. In the third over of the game, captain Temba Bavuma was removed for 10 off 8 balls by bowler Bhubaneshwar Kumar with the help of keeper Rishabh Pant’s safe hands.

Quinton De Kock and Dwaine Pretorius went for some powerful blows after the wicket fell at a score of 22. The latter, in particular, appeared to be in good shape. However, Pretorius was clean bowled for 29 runs off 13 balls by bowler Harshal Patel at the 39-run mark, ending their promising partnership.

SA were 61/2 at the conclusion of six overs. With De Kock (16*) and Rassie van der Dussen (0*) leading the way.

After De Kock bowled for 22 runs off 18 balls by spinner Axar Patel, the Proteas reduced to 3/81. Ishan Kishan caught him with a deep square leg.

This drew David Miller, who was in fine form, to the crease.

South Africa were 86/3 at the end of 10 overs, thanks to Miller (4*) and also van der Dussen (15*).

Miller looked in fine form, blasting Harshal for four and six in the final two balls of the 12th over. And also Axar Patel for four, six, and six in the final three balls of the next over. These shots relieved some of the pressure on the Proteas and tilted the game in their favour slightly.

The duo kept the carnage going, both reaching their respective half-centuries and a 100-run partnership. They went on to score 22 runs in each of the 17th and 18th overs, completely turning the tide in the Proteas’ favour.

With only four runs needed to win in the last over, van der Dussen hit Chahal’s opening delivery for a boundary. And also claimed a remarkable seven-wicket victory with five balls to spare.

In the first innings, Ishan Kishan scored 76 runs and Shreyas Iyer 36 runs to help India reach 211/4. Moreover, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, and Dwaine Pretorius each took one wicket for South Africa.

Brief Scores:

India 211/4 (Ishan Kishan 76, Shreyas Iyer 36, Wayne Parnell 1/32)

South Africa 212/3 (Rassie van der Dussen 75 David Miller 64; Axar Patel 1/40)
