Before that, despite a half-century from Hardik Pandya and quickfire knocks from Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda, India fell short of the 200-run mark. With Chris Jordan bowling an excellent spell of 2/23, India could muster 198/8 in the 1st T20 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
India were off to a fine start with an aggressive approach from skipper Rohit Sharna. While he failed to convert his start, scoring 14-ball 24, he was not alone. Deepak Hooda made an excellent start, hammering 17-ball 33. But he too failed to convert that into a big one. Then next in line was Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed 19-ball 39 and fell short of his fifty. However, Hardik Pandya (51 off 33) helped India post 198/8 while Dinesh Karthik’s 7-ball 11 too helped a little in the cause.
As for team news, Deepak Hooda gets his chance ahead of Sanju Samson. In the bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh make up the numbers.

Rohit Sharma is back: Good news for India is that Rohit is back to lead the team after recovering from Covid-19. Rohit will be leading the team outside India for the some time. According to the Indian captain, he has fully recovered and is raring to go vs England.
“My recovery from COVID-19 was good, eight-nine days have passed since the time I tested positive for COVID.
I started training three days back so that is why I decided to play the first T20I game. I do not have any symptoms, all my tests have come back as negative and now I am looking forward to the game,” confirmed Rohit.
