Lakshya Sen, who is the sixth seed in the tournament was the favourite against 41st ranked Popov. However the Indian bowed out from the openiong round with a straight game defeat. Lakshya Sen vs Christo Popov
Sixth seed Lakshya Sen is all set to begin his campaign in the German Open. He faces 41st ranked Christo Popov in the first round. Lakshya Sen last featured in the BWF Tour during the Indonesia Masters and he made it to the quarterfinal.
It was his best performance this season so far. Lakshya reached the final at the German Open last year and he is aiming to go one better this time around.
Christo Popov meanwhile is set to feature in the singles for the first time this season. Lakshya Sen enters as the favourite in the upoming contest. The Indian leads the head-to-head record 4-1 between both the players.
Mithun Manjunath vs Loh Kean Yew
Fresh after winning the National title, Mithun Manjunath faces a big test against Loh Kean Yew. The unseeded Indian will face fourth seed Loh Kean Yew. Manjunath featured in only the Thailand Masters earlier this year and bowed out from the first round.
Loh Kean Yew meanwhile made two quarterfinal apperaances at the Malaysia Open and India Open. He enters as the favourite in the upcoming contest.
Malvika Bansod vs Wang Zhi Yi
Malvika Bansod is featuring in her fourth tournament at the BWF Tour this yera. However the Indian is yet to register a win so far. She bowed out from the first round in the Malaysia Open, India Open and Indonesia Masters so far.
She yet again faces a big challenge as her opponent in the first round at the Germn Open will be World No.6 Wang Zhi Yi. The 22-year old Chinese recently reached the semifinal at the Indonesia Masters and will be the firm favourite against the Indian in the upcoming contest. Both the players will be facing each other for the first time.
Tasnim Mir vs Pornpawee Chochuwong
17-year old Tasnim Mir faces an uphill task as she will be facing sixth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong in the first round. Mir made it to the main draw after defeating Ireland’s Rachael Darragh in the qualifiers. She is making her debur in the main draw of a BWF Super series event.
Chochuwong meanwhile has reached two back-to-back quarterfinals this year at the Indonesia Masetrs and German Open and is the favourite in the first round.
