ENG-W vs SA-W: In 2nd T20I, England Women defeated South Africa in Worcester by 6 wickets to clinch the T20I portion of the multi-format series. After choosing to bat first and putting the visitors in, England reduced the target to 149 and completed the chase with one over remaining. With the third and final T20I scheduled to take place in Derby on Monday, the defeat means that South Africa is still winless on the tour.

England didn’t get off to the best of beginnings as they were the victims of a century opening stand between Anneke Bosch (61) and Lara Goodall (42). However, England made sure to control the scoring rate at all times. And the visitors reached their century only in the 15th over.

The hosts struck with the wicket of Goodall the next delivery. As Alice Capsey claimed her first T20I wicket for England. Then, after picking Bosch with a yorker, Sophie Ecclestone collapsed. In their 20 overs, South Afica was restricted to 148/6 after losing five wickets for 27 runs. A large part of that can be attributed to Sarah Glenn, who bowled the 18th over and struck twice before Katherine Brunt finished it off with an outstanding final over.

Chasing a score of 140, England started off slowly. However, in the third over, Sophia Dunkley took the lead, smashing sixes. And a hat-trick of boundaries against Masabata Klaas before being caught off the final ball of the over. However, Danielle Wyatt continued to make shots and keep the scoreboard moving. At 51/2, England finished the PowerPlay.

Sune Luus’ fine deep-cover catch of Wyatt in the 11th over allowed England to survive that blow. As well courtesy to a 56-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Natalie Sciver, who was captaining England, and Amy Jones. The match all but over when Sciver run out for 47 off 41 in the 18th over.

Brief Scores:

South Africa Women 148/6 in 20 overs (Bosch 61; Glenn 2-27) lost to England 151/4 in 19 overs (Sciver 47; Khaka 1-10) by six wickets.
