ENG vs IND: Indian cricketers have nets at Leicestershire County Ground

ENG vs IND: Indian cricketers, including skipper Rohit Sharma and opener Shubman Gill, hit the nets on Monday in preparation for the postponed fifth and final Test against England, which begins on July 1 in Birmingham.

The two got into the rhythm as they attempted to polish their skills during the practise session at the Leicestershire County Ground. Rohit and Gill are likely to begin the innings for India in the Test, and the duo got into the groove as they looked to hone their skills.

Rohit, who was rested for the home T20I series against South Africa, guarded a few deliveries on the front foot while also hitting pull shots against short balls. During the batting practise, Gill, too, appeared to be working on his game.

India will headquartered in Leicestershire for a week and will play Leicestershire in a four-day warm-up match beginning June 24.

Last year, the combo of Rohit and KL Rahul were instrumental in India taking a 2-1 lead in the Test series in England until the final match was called off due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Rahul, on the other hand, will miss the trip due to a groyne issue. That also kept him out of the South Africa series. His absence provided an opportunity for Gill to travel to India.

In four Tests, Rohit scored 368 runs, including a century and two fifties. While Rahul scored 315 runs, including a century and a half-century.

Gill was a key figure in India’s historic Test series victory in Australia in 2020-21. And he’ll be eager to make an impression in the UK. After returning to the squad following the New Zealand series last year.

It will also be Rohit’s first time guiding the squad in a Test match outside of India.

England, headed by Ben Stokes, has been in fantastic form recently. Winning 2-0 over New Zealand, the reigning World Test Champions.

Three T20Is and as many ODIs are part of India’s tour of England. And the visitors will play two warm-up matches against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. Before the white-ball series begins.

Indian players who did not play in the South Africa series. Including Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravindra Jedaja, had their first training session in England last week.
