Commonwealth Games heroes Lakshya Sen and Kidmabi Srikanth will carry India’s hopes at the BWF World Championships as they head into the second round. Sen, who won the gold in Birmingham will face Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver in what should be a straightforward clash for the Indian rising star. The duo have never played against each other and on current form, Lakshya will be the favourite to seal progression.

CWG Bronze medallist Kidambi Srikanth meanwhile will go up against China’s Zhao Jun Peng. The duo have met twice in their careers with one win each to their name. While Kidambi will be the favourite, one can expect a tricky tie for the Indian ace shuttler.

HS Prannoy has had the toughest draw of the lot as he faces second seed Kento Momota in round 2. The Japanese has been a great nemesis for the Kerala-born shuttler having won all eight matches against him. While Prannoy has managed a career revival of sorts in recent times, the draw is too tricky for him to navigate.

It is a huge day for Women’s doubles with as many as four pairs battling for a place in the round of 16. All eyes will be on Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy as they look for their first win over the Chinese pairing of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan after three defeats. The others have also been handed similarly difficult draws in what is a make-or-break day for the Indian contingent.

Men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been handed a comfortable draw as they face the unfancied Guatemnmala pair of Solis Jonathan and Anibal Marroquin. Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun face Danish duo Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen in what is a tricky fixture for the Indian pair.  Saina Nehwal, fortunately, received a bye and has made it to the pre-quarters. She will be in action on Wednesday.
