Badminton Asia Junior Championship LIVE – Anish Thoppani vs Chung-Hsiang Yih (8-21, 24-22, 3rd game in Progress): Unnati Hooda is one game away from clinching the gold medal in Under-17 Girls’ Singles at the Asian Junior Badminton Championship today. She will become the 1st ever Indian girl to win title at the Asian Junior Badminton. Unnati has been given top seed in the tournament and will play Thailand’s Sarunrak Vitidsarn for the title. Badminton Junior World Championship: Youngster Unnati Hooda keeps India’s medal hopes alive, advances to round of 16

Unnati Hooda, who is the top seed in the U-17 Girls category defeated Japan’s Mion Yokouchi in semifinals in straight sets 21-13, 21-10. With this victory, she became the first Indian in the U-17 Girls singles category to enter the final in the history of the tournament. She has entered the final without dropping even a game in the tournament. She now takes on Thailand’s Sarunrak Vitidsarn in the gold medal contest. Vitidsarn defeated South Korea’s Kim Min Sun in straight games in the semifinal.

The second seed Thai player started the tournament by defeating Joelle Chee 21-6, 21-13 in the second round. She then defeated Indonesia’s Salsabila Amiradana and in the next round by winning the contest 21-10, 14-21, 21-10. This is the only game in which she dropped a game as she won all the other contests comfortably in straight games to reach the final.

Anish Thoppani vs Chung-Hsiang Yih

In the U-15 Boys category, Anish Thoppani is now eyeing for a gold medal as he stunned second seed Lee Yu-Jui 18-21, 21-12, 21-12 tin the semifinal. Anish Thoppani started the tournament by defeating Japan’s Mahiro Matsumoto 21-16, 17-21, 21-13. In the second round he defeated ninth seed Indonesian Maharishiel Gain in three games.

In the process of reaching the final, he also stunned Malaysia’s third seed Boon Le Lim and Indonesia’s fifth seed Glend Rumondor. Thoppani now aims to continue his splendid show against Hsiang Yih. Meanwhile, Chung-Hsiang Yih defeated seventh seed Gnana Dattu 21-16, 19-21, 21-13 to enter the final.

In the Under-17 Boys Doubles, Sanskar Saraswat and Arsh Mohammad defeated Chinese Taipei’s Lai Po Yu -Yi-Hao Lin duo in the gold medal match.
