Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli is a legend, says Shadab Khan ahead of India vs Pakistan clash

Asia Cup 2022: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan lauded the star Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who has been out of form for a very long time, ahead of Sunday’s high-profile match against India and expressed his desire that he finds form and scores tonnes of runs, but not against them.

For the current Pakistani team, Khan is playing an important role. He ranks among Pakistan’s top all-rounders in the game’s shortest format. On Sunday, Men in Green will play their first T20I tournament match against India.

Speaking of the former India captain, Khan expressed his wish that Kohli will not strike a century against them but rather during this competition.

“Virat Kohli is a legend. His performances are still good but he has set such high standards that people feel that he is not performing. I hope he gets back to form and scores century but not against us,” Shadab Khan said in the press conference.

A side strain that Mohammad Wasim sustained during the practise session on Wednesday prevented him from competing in the Asia Cup. Wasim’s setback further damages Pakistan’s pace attack, which will be without Shaheen Afridi owing to his four- to six-week absence from the competition due to a knee injury.

Talking about how the Pakistan team suffered an injury blow ahead of Asia Cup, Shadab Khan said:

“We will miss Shaheen and Mohammed Wasim. They are terrific players. But the beauty of cricket is that it is a team game, not an individual game. We will start afresh as this is a new match. What has happened is history now. We would like to perform the same way as we did. Definitely, we have a good team but it is not a champion team. We don’t worry about the result we focus on the game.”

The Asian Cricket Council’s marquee event returns after a four-year interval with the 2022 edition of the Men’s Asia Cup. Being played at two locations with the T20 format. Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host four matches from August 27 through September 11, while Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host nine matches, including the championship game.

Defending champions India has won the award seven times, making them the most successful team overall. This year’s tournament will use the T20 format, as opposed to the ODI format that was used for the previous one.
