Asia Cup 2022 to be held in UAE, confirms BCCI president Sourav Ganguly
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly announced on Thursday that the UAE would host the 2022 Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup 2022 will now take place in the UAE instead of Sri Lanka as originally planned because of the ongoing economic problems.
“Asia Cup will be held in the UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rain (in that duration),” Ganguly told reporters after the Board’s Apex Council meeting in Mumbai.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was informed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday. That the board will not be able to host the 2017 Asia Cup T20. Due to the country’s ongoing political and economic crisis.
In response to the current crisis. The Sri Lanka Cricket recently decided to postpone the third season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
The Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format, is scheduled to take place from August 27 to September 11.
Sri Lanka had just hosted Australia for a multi-format series despite the situation. Both sides played excellent cricket in the highly competitive series. Sri Lanka won the ODI series 3-2, Australia won the T20I series 2-1. While the Warne-Murli Trophy in the Test series was split as the two-match series concluded in a 1-1 draw.
The T20 format will be played during the tournament, which will run from August 27 to September 11.
